Expo 2015 and the EU Commission: partnerships and investment opportunities for EU enterprises

Just a few hours before the opening of the long awaited Expo 2015, among the numerous initiatives that will be held in Milan in the next 6 months within the Universal Exposition, it should be pointed out a series of events in calendar, arranged with the participation of the European Union.

The EU Commission has indeed planned a cycle of events, obviously in close liaison with the Expo’s leitmotiv “Feeding the Planet. Energy for life” in order to enjoy the opportunity represented by Expo 2015 to strengthen the system of European SMEs and to favor their global development, fostering the investments and the creation of international partnerships.

The project in question was developed by the EU Commission – Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs in cooperation with Promos, the Special Agency for International Activities of the Milan Chamber of Commerce and it is included in the program “Missions for Growth”, created in 2011 with the purpose of supporting the growth and the competitiveness of the European SMEs and of facilitating their access to strategic markets.

There will be seven events held in Milan, each one of them will be focused on one of the main international geographical areas. They start with the EU – Mediterranean Countries & Turkey Days on May 6th and 7th, then there will be the EU – China Days on June 9th and 10th, the EU – Latin America and Caribbean Days on June 12th and 13th, the EU – Japan Days on July 10th and 11th, the EU – Sub Saharan Africa Days on September 18th and 19th, the EU – South East Asia Days on September 29th and 30th, and in closing the EU – US & Canada Days on October 5th and 6th. Then, there will be one last event, held on October 12th and 13th (to be confirmed) entirely focused on PDO (protected designation of origin).

The events will be structured according to the following schedule:

For any single event there is a first session, which is a conference, during which the politics provided by the EU Commission and the existing tools to support SMEs’ access to markets will be presented, as well as the framework for the industrial and commercial cooperation between the EU and the respective Countries belonging to the geographical area concerned.

Then, there will be B2B meetings free of charge with at least 100 EU companies, clusters, research centers, and industry-related organizations from the EU and the concerned Third Countries. The most concerned industrial sectors will be the ones connected to the main theme of Expo, including the agro-food sector, the food and beverage production, in particular the innovative and high-quality products, safety and quality control, food chain management (transformation, food conservation, packaging, logistics and technologies), PDO and PGI sectors, as well as other sectors, including the ones involving renewable energies, biotechnologies and environmental management.

At the end of this meeting is also planned, for the interested companies, a visit of the Expo Milan site arranged by the EU Commission.

In closing, on the third day of every event the Industrial Union of the city of Parma will offer to the interested companies the chance to visit the excellences of the agro-food industry in the Parma area.

It is expected to be a unique opportunity for enterprises that are willing to expand their business on international markets, with huge chances to enlarge their network of contacts in a context that will see the participation of 145 Countries and 3 International Organizations, as well as one more chance to visit the Universal Exposition. Save the dates!
