Live from BLB Asia Desk: Investment and job in China - National Fitness Plan 2016/2020

The welfare of a nation also depends on what the physical shape of its citizens.

This thought must have animated one of the most significant reforms launched by the Chinese Government in 2016, which is the National Fitness Plan approved last June 23rd.

If the plan has the stated aim of encouraging people to perform regular physical activity in order to improve their health, it is certainly more significant from an economic point of view, especially given the opportunities that will open up for foreign investors, who will contribute to the development of the infrastructure network that will make feasible the increase of physical activity for Chinese citizens. It is in fact planned to build new stadiums and sports facilities throughout China, as well as the modernization of existing ones.

Among the objectives of the plan it is also included the construction of infrastructure and facilities related to the 2022 Winter Olympics, to be held in Beijing. On this front the ambitions of the Chinese government are very high: it aims to introduce in the daily practice sports activities like skating, ice hockey, skiing and other winter sports, with the goal of reaching over 300 million practitioners by 2020.

It is therefore likely that, as happened in football, in the coming years will be a great demand for Western professionals appointed to lead teams or sports academies; a chance not to be missed also for Italians, always among most competitive athletes in winter sports.
