Draft legislation against poverty, n. 2494 July 14th, 2016

With the draft legislation n. 2494, july 14th 2016, passed by the italian Camera dei deputati, some rules to reduce poverty in Italy have been suggested, in accordance with Article 3 of the Italian Constitution and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU.

The aim is to increase the protections provided by the social policies, removing the economic and social obstacles that limit the equality among italian citizens.

The measures that the government will implement are:

  • the introduction of the Reddito d'inclusione, on economic support for those who are below the absolute poverty line, in combination with a set of tools, provided at municipal level.
  • the improvement  of social services, to ensure them across the national territory.

The Reddito d'inclusione (and all the measures to fight poverty) should be introduced by the end of 2016, however, it is likely that the introduction will take place gradually over four years (2016-2019).
